The late Jonathan who, until his death, was the chairman of Otuoke chiefs council, was laid to rest, Saturday, at his Otuoke home town in Ogbia council area of Bayelsa State after a solemn funeral service at St. Stephen?s Anglican Church.
In an emotional laden voice, President Jonathan, clad in a black shirt, who described the death of Meni as very painful, said he died of cardiac arrest.
The president spoke at the church service. According to him, his brother lived a good life, though he was still a young person at his death, his death is particularly too painful to bear.
His words, ?I always know that people will surely die. I always believe that people will live to an age where they make their names. Some persons die before they are born, there are a lot of still births. Some others die before they grow up to an age where people recognized them. He (brother) had his two sons fairly grown up; that, at least, will be with us. The circumstances of the death sometimes worries me. What worries me is the he died so suddenly.
?This was a young man I came home on a Friday, he came to my house, nobody carried him, he moved down just from his house across the road. We discussed he was a bit frail.I said follow us so that he could do medical check up.
?He drove himself down to Yenagoa to board the chopper to Abuja. He got to Abuja that Saturday and was admitted in hospital. The following Monday, his breathing changed. I said, ?let us make arrangement to get him out to let him get treatment outside?. So an arrangement was being made. Unfortunately the following he had cardiac arrest and inflamed heart at the State House Clinic.
?We were making arrangement to move him to National Hospital. It is a very sad thing. He had been covering the home front for us. He has a very humble person. He was a reliable and trustworthy person you could ask to handle things for you. He is dead, there is nothing we can do. I must thank all of you who have come to join the Jonathan family to give us this respect. In some traditions, I?m supposed not to be in church. It is tradition that you don?t bury your younger ones.
Luckily for this community, we don?t have too many of these cultural and traditional things. It is quite sad, it pulled the whole Nigerians to the community to bury my younger brother.?
Present at the church service were Mrs. Eunice Jonathan, mother of the president; Dame Patience Jonathan; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal; his Deputy, Emeka Ihediora; Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State and his wife. Also in attendance were Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan; (Delta); Matin Elechi (Ebonyi), Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers); Godswill Akpabio (Akwa Ibom); Theodore Orji (Abia); among others.

You mean after spending so much on food, there is no brain to think of a better medical treatment in Nigeria; there is no thought that you can have a medical condition that requires you and you cabinet to get the best Hospital and trained specialist in Abuja or Nigeria that could do the job without flying him out? When you sick, you remember the state of the hospital in Nigeria, the same hospital an average nigerians go to as a result of no options.
I just pray that God will continue to deal with people that oppress Nigeria poor

So, to everyone justling to take Jonathan's job, who are you ready to lose?
Is it absolutely impossible for this fish-brain 'PhD Holder' to make a single statement without a major gaffe? So you wanted to fly your brother out and you aren't ashamed to say so publicly? Nigeria is what it is because of this shameless act by its rulers

I just get sick from such talks.
This is the president's brother........imagine what happens to people in villages whose health care center funds have been embezzled.
Last time it was Buhari's daughter now, president's brother dying from circumstances that are possibly treatable.
We should be ashamed.

Wsdm: Thank you so much. The abundant of what is in the heart is said through the mouth. If after editing and counter editing, this is what we hear from Mr President then, we are in trouble for the remaining wasteful years of his regime. THRASH!
You guys should read that story over and over again and understand clearly what he meant by moving him out to get treatment. The man was being tended to at the state house clinic which is different from the National hospital which he mentioned in the next paragraph. It therefore means the plan was to move him from the state house clinic to the National hospital. Criticism should be done in a civilised and objective manner. I do not like GEJ and his entire PDP polithievery family but on this he has not erred. I might be wrong though so correct me if I am wrong.

Prof of English and editors don full everywhere these days, all looking for how to correct another person. My advice to these anonymous professors is to first remove the log of wood in their eyes so they can see clearly to point out the speck in other peoples eyes.
Jonathan is not the best English speaker in the world but one cannot deny his sincerity and down to earth nature. When he was asked by the state of health of the first lady during the presidential media chat, he laid it bare and admitted the first lady was actually sick and has recovered. This time around he narrated all that happened when his brother fell ill and how they had plans to move him out(whether abroad or national hospital) and even what eventually killed him. Isn't this the sort of openness and down to earth nature that we require in this country? Professional FAULT FINDERS will always find fault. I am a medical doctor and the truth is that these days once any Nigerian becomes seriously sick, the easiest thing that come to mind is how to fly the person abroad. There's always a perception that there are some MAGICIANS out there that can prevent people from dying. But this perception is FALSE and Mr president is not immune from it. If I may ask, what percentage of those who get flown abroad come back alive? It will take 5 to 10yrs of CONSISTENT improvement in our health care system for this perception to change and for people to believe in our health system.
Another problem with Nigeria's health system is that there is too much concentration on CURATIVE medicine while PREVENTIVE medicine is almost neglected. We have to seriously improve on preventive medicine because most of the life style ailments that are currently killing our people like mad (including heart attack, stroke) and cancer are better prevented than treated. For cancer, screening programmes and public awareness programmes will facilitate early detection, which is key to good prognosis

Must you reason with your Bottom just because you want to criticize? Check my profile I am a prolific PDP basher. I hate corruption with a passion. But be objective and sound in your criticism lest you be mistaken for a slowpoke.

philips70:Idiott! You are the one that should read the news more carefully. Unless you are a member of Jonathan family who witnessed it all or a mind reader, every sane person understand what Jona in his stuupid innocence is talking about. Whoever refers to transferring a patient in the same city hospital to another hospital as "getting him out"! And what kind of elaborate arrangements need to be made for taking a sick person in an emergency other than put him in a car and drive as fast as possible? By the nature of the arrangements Jonah in his foolish naivety spoke about, it is either a "getting him out" of the country to a nation of more serious people, or the other "getting him out" -i.e out of existence, like mercy killing. When Andrew talked about "checking out" for instance, was he referring to moving to the next building. I have always had a unique way of identifying the paid azz-wholes manning Aso rock hired laptops. Most of them have tag numbers on their userid. Like Philips70, Wesley80, sincere 9 gerian.
