Baseball is partially engrained in every American's brain, and partially engrained in every little boy's fantasy about his grown-up life. Baseball is that American classic of a game that's persisted through numerous decades, yet that still remains true to its roots. This said, baseball uniforms have changed very little since the beginning of the sport. On the other hand, basketball, which is also a classic American sport, has changed drastically. Basketball uniforms have perhaps changed the most drastically of any athletic sport; uniforms that once consisted of short shorts now promote longer, looser shorts with different shoes. Yet these two sports do have one thing in common: They unite the American public in ways that even the President hasn't been able to do. So let's give each a round of applause for the positive effects they've had on culture, society, and of course, fashion. The 1920's saw the popularity of basketball increase, and at this time basketball uniforms consisted of padded, quilt-like shorts and jersey made of wool. The company Spalding, which now brands basketballs, was the first to make these specifically produced padded shorts. These basketball shorts are now recognized worldwide as a staple of the 1920's sports economy, and are high priced artifacts. These shorts can be auctioned off from anywhere from $300 to $600 a pop! Women's uniforms, sadly, only had one memorable period during basketball history. When women's basketball first started, women actually wore skirts on the court! These skirts were worn in conjunction with short-sleeve shirts that had built in bras. Thankfully, this style didn't last too long!Ah, the glorious fashion trends of the 70's. Any quick look through your parent's high school yearbook will give insight into some of the popular basketball uniforms of that particular era. In lieu of fashion, basketball shorts during the 70's were shorter, tighter, and fairly humorous by our standards today. However, a few decades later during the 90's, basketball shorts became more breezy and longer in length, ushering in an era of baggy, loose basketball shorts and free-flowing jerseys. During this time, shoes took a drastic change from high tops to a more flexible form that was more compatible with the quick moves of pro basketball players. Basketball became somewhat more stylish during the 90's, completely laying to rest the era of short shorts and tight jerseys.Part of the baseball tradition is the non-departure from its original uniform. During the first game of baseball, baseball uniforms included pantaloon-like pants with flannel material shirts. Also, as history pictures tell us, straw hats were part of the lineup! The only thing that's changed in the history of uniforms is that vertical stripes were implemented during the eighties. Players also donned different colors depending on their teams, and depending on if it was an away or a home game. The knickers that baseball players currently wear were implemented between the transition of the 19th and 20th century. Baseball players quit the heavy, quilted pants they were used to wearing and donned knickers, which are now in regular rotation with most baseball teams. The baseball cap is an American staple. Whether you're working on your car, going hiking, or just don't want to wash your hair, a baseball cap is a regular part of the American wardrobe. The baseball cap is an integral part of the baseball uniform, and has existed in one form or another since the beginning of baseball (with the exception of the very first straw hat). Hilariously, the baseball cap at different points in time featured styles like the "pillbox," the "cake box," and the "Brooklyn" design, all of which can be viewed in hindsight as highly humorous cap trends. However, it was the baseball hat today we're all familiar with that has become the norm for baseball, with its primary function to keep the sun out of the players' eyes. Other than that, baseball's various uniforms have rarely strayed from the original lineup of a long sleeve shirt, knickers, and of course, the classic baseball hat. Triple Analysis: Pancreatic Cancer, Apoptosis and Protein Kinase Inhibitors

This triple analysis focuses on cancer drug development strategies in Pancreatic Cancer and by the two mechanism/target/effect areas of Apoptosis and Protein Kinase Inhibitors. Each of these three individual parts is evaluated according to standardized criteria in a five pillar pipeline drug assessment methodology to compare drug development strategies in oncology. This makes it easy to find and compare analysis not only within one single cancer focus area but also between different areas.

Below is a short synopsis of each part included in this report:

Part I: Pancreatic Cancer

The pancreatic cancer report part comprises defined and up to date development strategies for 213 pancreatic cancer drugs within the portfolio of 137 investigators, from Ceased to Marketed. This report part extensively analyses 171 identified targets of pancreatic cancer drugs, organized into 142 drug target profiles, and assesses them in pancreatic cancer.

This part is based on the following publication:

Portfolio Analytics in the Pancreatic Cancer Pipeline and Portfolio Planning - High Unmet Medical Need but Where to Target?

Part II: Apoptosis

The apoptotic cancer drug report part comprises defined and up to date development strategies for 234 drugs in oncology within the portfolio of 158 companies world-wide, from Ceased to Marketed. The report extensively analyses their 181 identified drug targets, organized into 157 drug target strategies, and assesses them in 69 cancer indications.

This part is based on the following publication:

Commercializing Apoptotic Drugs in Cancer: The Faster Route to Consider Your Options and Position of Others

Part III: Protein Kinase Inhibitors

The protein kinase report comprises defined and up to date development strategies for 409 protein kinase drugs (990 projects) within the portfolio of 160 investigators, from Ceased to Marketed. This report part extensively analyses 133 identified targets of protein kinase drugs, organized into 200 drug target strategies, and assesses them in 57 different cancer indications.

This part is based on the following publication:

Protein Kinase Therapeutics in Oncology - Where to Commercialize?

The report is written for you to understand and assess the impact of competitor entry and corresponding changes to development strategies for your own portfolio products. It helps teams to maximize molecule value by selecting optimal development plans and manage risk and uncertainty. The report serves as an external commercial advocate for pharmaceutical companies? pipeline and portfolio planning (PPP) in cancer by:

  • Providing you with competitive input to the R&D organization to guide development of early product ideas and ensure efforts are aligned with business objectives
  • Assisting you to make informed decisions in selecting cancer indications that are known to be appropriate for your drug?s properties
  • Analyzing, correlating and integrating valuable data sources in order to provide accurate data for valuation of pipeline, in-licensing and new business opportunities
  • Providing you with commercial analytic support for due diligence on in-licensing and acquisition opportunities
  • Supporting development of integrative molecule, pathway and disease area strategies
  • Integrating knowledge for you to consider the therapeutic target for the highest therapeutic outcome and return on investment
This report provides systems, analytical and strategic support both internally to PPP and to stakeholders across your own organization. The report will also be an important part of creating and implementing a market development plan for cancer drugs to insure that the optimal market conditions exist by the time the products are commercialized.

Meizu MX launches today, lines dotted all over China as usual

This time last year we witnessed the Meizu M9 madness in Shenzhen, so we decided to pay our favorite gadget city another visit for the MX launch today (still the 1.4GHz dual-core model, of course). Surprisingly, the lines in Huaqiangbei this time were significantly shorter, but we were told that this was due to tighter security measures as requested by the local authorities -- if you've seen last year's photos you'll know why. Instead, this year the customers are told to line up only when they get a phone call; but a few keen beans still arrived last night, and the first guy in Shenzhen even turned down hotel accommodation offered by Meizu. Yep, that's how you do a "first" properly, folks. Other big cities in China also saw a similar phenomenon, including Beijing, Guangzhou and even Hong Kong -- it's hard to miss the long line formed along the south end of Sai Yeung Choi Street outside the new Mongkok store.

Meizu also informed us that the MX's final hardware benefits from an improved camera (tweaked white balance and the lens now benefits from an oleophobic coating), while the software's been giving many enhancements since our review -- these are mostly the weird default settings we mentioned previously, such as the max clock speed out of the box (now at 1.4GHz instead of 1GHz) and the default video recording resolution (now 1080p instead of the weird 1,080 x 720 setting). Oh, and if you're still rocking the older M9, Meizu has confirmed that it'll also get the Ice Cream Sandwich update later this year, so stay tuned. More in the press release after the break.
