Tucson is welcoming back ? Vamos a Mexican Baseball Fiesta.? This baseball extravaganza will be held at Kino Stadium October 4 through October 7.?

The fiesta this year will host six teams ? four from?Mexico as well as the San Diego Padres Future Stars and the Los Angeles Dodgers Future Stars.

In a recent news release about the Fiesta Council Member Richard Fimbres had this to say, ?I want to welcome and thank the four teams from the Mexican Pacific League, the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres farm teams for their participation in the 2012 Vamos a Tucson Baseball Fiesta. Their contributions, as well as those of their fans to our community and economy will greatly benefit the Tucson region in many ways.?

There were many players behind the scenes to get the fiesta to come back - the Tucson Padres, the Metropolitan Tucson Convention and Visitors Bureau (MTCVB), the Sonoran Sports Commission and Desert Diamond Casinos and Entertainment, all worked together to make it happen. ?With over 1,800 hotel rooms booked; 11,000 meals eaten and over 1,000 hotel rooms for fans, the economic boom to Tucson is a bonus.

"Winter baseball is huge in Latin America, and through this tournament, Tucson will continue to be a part of it."

Added Fimbres: ?Baseball is just one aspect of the activities, October 4 through 7.? If you are interested attending the fiesta tickets are on sale at the Kino Stadium Box Office, or by calling (520)434-1367 or by visiting the website at www.tucsonpadres.com.

"We are excited to host the second Vamos a Tucson Mexican Baseball Fiesta," said Mike Feder, Tucson Padres Vice President and General Manager in a recent news release. "We learned last year what a great level of play this is. We expect this year's event to be bigger and better."

Two returning teams are ? Naranjeros de Hermosillo and Yaquis de Cuidad Obregon, and new to the lineup are Venados de Mazatlan and Tomateros de Culiacan.?

In 2011 the three day fiesta drew over 12,000 fans from both north and south of the border.

Bo Xilai did 'massive harm' to China's Communist Party, say officials (+video)

Bo Xilai, the disgraced Chinese politician facing prison time in a scandal involving the murder of a British businessman, has been expelled from the Communist Party, which is undergoing a once-in-a-decade generational transition of power.

China's ruling Communist Party accused disgraced politician Bo Xilai of abusing power, taking huge bribes and other crimes on Friday, sealing the fate of a controversial leader whose fall shook a leadership handover due at a congress from Nov. 8.

The once high-flying Bo now faces a criminal investigation that stemmed from a murder scandal, and will almost certainly be jailed. With the Communist Party congress about six weeks away, further steps in the case could come before then, helping pave the way for a transition of power, experts said.

"Bo Xilai's actions created grave repercussions and did massive harm to the reputation of the party and state, producing an extremely malign effect at home and abroad," the official statement from a party leaders' meeting said, according to a report by the official Xinhua news agency.

Bo's wife Gu Kailai and his former police chief Wang Lijun have already been jailed over the scandal stemming from the murder of British businessman Neil Heywood in the southwestern municipality of Chongqing, where Bo was Communist Party chief.

The official statement carried by Xinhua said that in the murder scandal, Bo "abused his powers of office, committed serious errors and bears a major responsibility".

That charge appears to reflect accusations from Wang's trial that suggested Bo tried to stymie the murder investigation.

Reports that Bo, the "princeling" son of a revolutionary leader, could escape with a light punishment have now been dealt a fatal blow, and accusations of womanising could further tarnish his reputation in the eyes of Chinese people.

But the few weeks left before the congress will probably not allow time for a trial, said He Weifang, a law professor at Peking University who has closely followed Bo's downfall.

"I think it's quite certain that he won't be able to escape punishment under the criminal law, but the timing makes it unlikely that will happen before the congress," said He.

"I'd guess that he'll get a jail sentence of 20 years or longer. The death penalty is unlikely, although the bribery charges could in theory allow it, if the amount is as huge as they say."

At the congress, Chinese President Hu Jintao will step down as party chief, almost certainly making way for Vice President Xi Jinping to emerge as top leader. Xi is then almost sure to be appointed state president at the annual parliament session, likely in March next year.

Warning to heed example

Bo, 63, has been expelled from the party as well as the elite decision-making Politburo and Central Committee "in view of his errors and culpability in the Wang Lijun incident and the intentional homicide case involving Bogu Kailai", said the party announcement.

Bogu is his wife's official but rarely used surname.

Bo's "grave violations of party discipline" extended back to his time as an official in Dalian city and Liaoning province in northeast China, and as minister of commerce, said the statement from the Politburo.

Thousands pray for US at 'America for Jesus' rally

PHILADELPHIA (AP) ? Thousands of conservative Christians gathered Saturday on Independence Mall in Philadelphia to pray for the future of the United States in the weeks before the presidential election.

Religious broadcaster Pat Robertson and Family Research Council president Tony Perkins topped a full day of speakers at "The America for Jesus 2012" prayer rally.

Robertson, a former Republican candidate for president, called the election important, but didn't mention either major political party or candidate by name.

"I don't care what the ACLU says or any atheists say. This nation belongs to Jesus, and we're here today to reclaim his sovereignty," said Robertson, 82, who founded the Christian Coalition and Christian Broadcasting Network, and ran for president in 1988.

Organizers plan another prayer rally Oct. 20 in Washington, D.C., two weeks before President Barack Obama faces Republican Mitt Romney in the presidential election.

Perkins asked the crowd to pray for elected officials including Obama.

"We pray that his eyes will be open to the truth," Perkins said.

A number of event organizers, though, have been vocal critics of the Democratic president.

Steve Strang, the influential Pentecostal publisher of Charisma magazine, which was distributed at the rally, recently wrote in a blog post that America is under threat from a "radical homosexual agenda." He also said Obama "seems to be moving toward some form of European socialism."

And speaker Cindy Jacobs has blamed a mysterious Arkansas bird-kill last year on Obama's repeal of the policy known as "don't ask, don't tell," which allows gays and lesbians to serve openly in the military.

Speakers throughout the day condemned abortion, gay marriage and population control as practiced by Planned Parenthood. Christian rock music filled the historic mall as speakers challenged the crowd to overcome the seven deadly sins: pride, greed, lust, envy, gluttony, wrath and slothfulness.

The rally was held outside of Independence Hall, where the Declaration of Independence was signed. Pennsylvania is also where evangelist George Whitefield preached during the first Great Awakening, the 18th-century religious revival that spread through the American colonies.

Tim Cook on Apple maps: 'Extremely sorry'

Cook says the company is "extremely sorry" for the frustration that its maps application has caused and it's doing everything it can to make it better. (AP) ? Apple CEO Tim Cook says the company is "extremely sorry" for the frustration its Maps application has caused and it's doing everything it can to make it better. In the meantime, he recommended that people use competing map applications to get around.

Cook said in a letter posted online Friday that Apple "fell short" of its commitment to make the best products for its customers.

"Everything we do at Apple is aimed at making our products the best in the world. We know that you expect that from us, and we will keep working non-stop until Maps lives up to the same incredibly high standard," Cook said.

The Cupertino, Calif., company released an update to its iPhone and iPad operating system last week that replaced Google Maps with Apple's own map application. But users complained that the new map software offers fewer details, lacks public transit directions and misplaces landmarks, among other problems. Users have been flocking to social media to complain and make fun of the app's glitches, which included judging landscape features by their names. The hulking Madison Square Garden arena in New York, for instance, shows up as green park space because of the word "Garden."

It's an unusual misstep for Apple, the world's most valuable company. Apple prides itself on releasing best-of-class products, but there have been mishaps ?even under founder and late CEO Steve Jobs, whose dogged perfectionism is legendary. A company apology, analysts believe, would likely have happened under Jobs, too.

"I think they are clearing the air and, more importantly, clarifying why they had to do their own maps," says Tim Bajarin, a Creative Strategies analyst who's followed Apple for more than three decades. He pointed to the infamous "antennagate" issue of 2010. A problem with the iPhone 4's antenna was causing reception issues when people covered a certain spot with a bare hand. Then-CEO Jobs apologized at the time, though denied there was an antenna problem that needed fixing. Apple quickly recovered.

In his letter, Cook said Apple built a new version of its Maps product to give users what they've been asking for. The new app includes turn-by-turn directions, voice integration and a 3-D Flyover feature.

Google's map application for the iPhone did not give turn-by-turn directions or voice-guided navigation, although its version for Android devices does. Google didn't license its turn-by-turn technology to Apple.

Google, says Bajarin, simply "wouldn't give it" because the turn-by-turn feature gave devices running Google's Android software an obvious advantage over Apple. Maps and navigation are among the most-used features of smartphones.

Cook said Apple's Maps will get better as more people use the app and provide feedback. That's true for all digital maps. Google's wasn't perfect when it launched, but got better over the years as users pointed out mistakes and helped the company collect its vast trove of data used to perfect it.

"Ultimately, what (Apple) discovered early on is that Google had access to 100 million iOS users who helped them build the Google Maps database, Bajarin said. "At some point Apple had to put its foot down."

It came time, he added, for Apple to own their Maps customers ? and not Google.

But now, Cook is recommending that users look at other options ?including Google's map service.

"While we're improving Maps, you can try alternatives by downloading map apps from the App Store like Bing, MapQuest and Waze, or use Google or Nokia maps by going to their websites and creating an icon on your home screen to their web app," Cook wrote.

Could Apple have avoided the Maps debacle? Bajarin thinks so. After all, the company released Siri, its oft-derided virtual assistant, Siri, noting that it was still a work-in-progress and would get better over time. Customers understood.

"Had Apple and Tim Cook and team introduced the maps as a work-in-progress, they wouldn't have the backlash," he says.

Apple released the iPhone 5 last week and on Monday it said it sold more than 5 million of them in three days. Although the number is a record for any phone, it was fewer than analysts expected.

Shares of Cupertino, Calif.-based Apple Inc. slid $8.12 to $673.20 late Friday morning, amid a broader market decline.

Sudan, South Sudan sign deals to restart oil, boost trade

ADDIS ABABA (Reuters) - The leaders of Sudan and South Sudan signed deals on Thursday to secure their shared border and boost trade, which will restart crucial oil exports, but they failed to resolve other conflicts remaining after the South seceded last year.

The deal, reached after more than three weeks of negotiations, will throw both ailing economies a lifeline and prevent, for now, a resumption of the fighting that broke out along the border in April and nearly led to all-out war.

Sudan President Omar Hassan al-Bashir and South Sudan President Salva Kiir signed cooperation and trade deals to applause at a packed room in a five-star hotel in Addis Ababa, the seat of the African Union (AU).

"We are convinced that what has happened, which culminated in signing of the agreements, constitutes a giant step forward for both countries," AU mediator Thabo Mbeki said.

South Sudan seceded in July 2011 under an agreement that ended decades of civil war, but the neighbors still deeply distrust each other and have a history of failing to implement past agreements.

The defense ministers of both countries signed another deal to set up a demilitarized buffer zone along the joint border.

The deal will allow landlocked South Sudan to resume oil exports though Sudan, which will provide both ailing economies with dollars. The South in January had shut down its entire output of 350,000 barrels a day after the countries argued about transit fees.

Bashir said it was a "historic moment for building peace" between the former civil war foes.

Faced with the threat of U.N. sanctions and economic collapse, Bashir and Kiir agreed to set up the demilitarized zone.

But the two sides failed to settle the fate of at least five disputed, oil-producing regions along the 1,800 km (1,200 mile) border, despite pressure from the African Union, the United States and other Western powers.

"THE OIL WILL FLOW"

South Sudan's chief oil negotiator said preparations had already begun for the resumption of oil exports.

"I believe by the end of the year, the oil will flow," Pagan Amum said in Addis Ababa.

The two sides also failed to agree on the border region of Abyei, which has symbolic significance to both and is rich in grazing lands.

Kiir, who described the talks as "difficult", thanked Bashir for his cooperation but blamed his northern neighbor for failing to reach a deal on Abyei.

"As for Abyei, it was very unfortunate that we could not agree. My government and I accepted unconditionally the proposal of the AUHIP (African Union panel) to the resolution of the conflict in Abyei," he told the audience.

"Unfortunately, my brother Bashir and his government totally rejected the proposal in its totality," Kiir said.

Details of the AU's proposal were not immediately clear.

The U.N. Security Council had set a September 22 deadline for a broad deal to end hostilities, but that was informally extended until the end of the Addis Ababa summit, which Kiir and Bashir joined five days ago.

The border deal provides for both armies to pull back 10 km (6 miles) from the frontier. Special arrangements will be made for a strategic strip of land called Mile-14, which is important to Arab tribes allied to Sudan.

But the lack of a permanent solution for the disputed regions will pose future risks to border security. Their fate may have to be settled through international arbitration.

Also indirect talks between Sudan and the rebel Sudan People's Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N), which is fighting the Sudanese army in two areas bordering South Sudan, failed to make tangible progress.

"Nothing has been achieved," SPLM-N's Yasir Arman said in an interview before the deal was signed, adding that Sudan could have no real border security without involving the SPLM-N.

"We need to be included (in the security talks)," he said.

The SPLM-N is part of an alliance with rebels from the western region of Darfur who want to topple Bashir. Sudan refuses indirect talks and accuses the south of supporting the SPLM-N, which controls some territory on the Sudanese side of the border.

Diplomats say each side supports rebels on the other side.

Flacco throws for 356 yards as Baltimore (3-1) beats AFC North rival, 23-16

Baltimore receiver Torrey Smith?celebrates with teammate Dennis Pitta after scoring a touchdown. The Ravens improved to 3-1 with Thursday's win.

By DAVID GINSBURG

updated 1:19 a.m. ET Sept. 28, 2012

BALTIMORE - The regular NFL officials returned to action, and the ending of their first game was eerily familiar to the one that hastened the exit of the replacement refs.

This time, however, there were no replays or arguments at the end. Just another win by the Baltimore Ravens over the Cleveland Browns, 23-16 on Thursday night.

If not for two failed desperation passes into the end zone in the closing seconds, the returning officials might have had to work overtime on their first night back.

Cleveland began its final drive with 1:05 to go on its own 10. Rookie Brandon Weeden moved the Browns to the Baltimore 33 before a fourth-down pass into the end zone fell incomplete. But a personal foul penalty on Baltimore linebacker Paul Kruger gave winless Cleveland one more chance.

That pass sailed out of the end zone.

"Too much juice," Weeden lamented.

The final sequence was not unlike the controversial ending of Monday night's Green Bay-Seattle game, when a Hail Mary pass was ruled a touchdown. That play, and the furor it created, hastened negotiations that brought the regular officials back.

The lockout ended late Wednesday, bringing about the exit of the unpopular replacement refs. And so, finally, the tenured officials were in place for Week 4.

"I felt so bad for that Green Bay situation," Ravens running back Ray Rice said. "Replacement refs, their families, I can't knock them. The scrutiny they were under. That kind of scrutiny is bad. It's hard going from like Pop Warner to the big leagues."

As they walked onto the field hours before this game, the officiating crew received a round of applause and shouts of encouragement from fans in the lower sections. Head linesman Wayne Mackie and line judge Jeff Seeman both tipped their caps to acknowledge the support.

And then, before the pregame coin flip, referee Gene Steratore greeted the players at midfield by saying, "Good evening, men, it's good to be back."

Many in the sellout crowd of 70,944 stood and roared their approval.

Afterward, Ravens coach John Harbaugh echoed the sentiment of the crowd.

"Welcome back to the officials. Good to have them back," he said. "These guys are really good. The communication was good. I didn't agree with every call, but they were excellent."

Joe Flacco went 28 for 46 for 356 yards, threw one touchdown and ran for another. Yet, it wasn't until Cary Williams returned an interception 63 yards for a score at the end of the third quarter that the Ravens (3-1) put some distance between themselves and the young Browns (0-4).

"I thought our secondary made plays that had to be made, especially at the end there when they were knocking at the door," Harbaugh said. "Cary Wiliams was the difference in the game with the interception return for a touchdown."

The fans waited until the third quarter to boo the officials. On a 13-yard completion from Weeden to Benjamin Watson, Ravens safety Bernard Pollard was called for a helmet-to-helmet hit. The crowd jeered the call, but replays appeared to confirm the penalty.

The 15-yard markoff set up a 51-yard field goal by Phil Dawson that got the Browns within 16-10.

Late in the quarter, Williams ambushed an out pattern by Travis Benjamin and took the interception down the right sideline for a 13-point lead.

It was the 13th consecutive home win for the Ravens, the longest current run in the NFL, and their streak of 10 straight wins in the division is also the most of any team. Baltimore has also won nine straight over Cleveland.

Anquan Boldin caught nine passes for 131 yards, and Torrey Smith had six catches for 97 yards and a score.

Weeden went 25 for 52 for 320 yards, but rookie running back Trent Richardson gained only 47 yards rushing on 14 carries. Dawson kicked field goals of 51, 50 and 52 yards, the last one with 4:33 left to make it 23-16.

It's the third time since 1998 that the Browns have lost their first four games. They finished 2-14 in 1999 and 5-11 in 2009.

Coach Pat Shurmur applauded the performance of the refs, and acknowledged he deserved an unsportsmanlike conduct call in the fourth quarter.

"I can't do that," he said. "It's an emotional game, and I got to make sure I keep my emotions in check."

Cleveland played the majority of the game without wide receiver and punt returner Joshua Cribbs, who sustained a concussion while returning a kick late in the first quarter.

Cribbs had his helmet knocked off and lost the handle on the ball after absorbing a hard hit by Dannell Ellerbe. It was legal tackle, shoulder to helmet, and the officials did not call a penalty. Cribbs lay prone for several minutes before finally rising to his feet and walking off the field.

Flacco went 16 for 26 for 186 yards and a touchdown to stake the Ravens to 9-7 halftime lead.

NOTES: Former Browns and Ravens RB Jamal Lewis was inducted in Baltimore's Ring of Honor. ... Cleveland safeties Tashaun Gipson and Usama Young both sustained knee injuries. ... Dawson is the seventh player in NFL history to kick three FGs of at least 50 yards in a game.

Self Improvement | A Review: Songs of My Life...Slightly Out of Tune ...

By Irene Conlan -

Sometimes we just need to ?let down our hair,? talk about who we really are and have a good laugh. From the moment I picked up Susan Dintino?s book, Songs of My Life?Slightly Out of Tune, until I read the last line I was fascinated with her openness, her humor, and her insights into her own behavior. She takes us to her highest highs and her lowest lows in a way that is inspiring and always entertaining. She has walked the crooked path of self improvement and now takes the time to share what she has learned with those of us who are still trudging along. We can all learn from her insights, her authenticity and her wonderful wit. Author, talk show host, meditation teacher, wife, mother and an empowered woman, Susan will keep your attention and make you wish for more.

?

If you don?t know how to laugh at your own ?stuff? take a lesson from Susan who not only laughs about it but grows from it. She seriously learned not to take everything seriously and we can all learn from that. Anyone who thinks ?it?s all about them? should read this book and anyone who has forgotten how to laugh should read this as a refresher course.

Pick it up and? you won?t want to put it down. I recommend this book. Period.

Outdoor String Lights To Obtain The Great Exteriors - Express Yourself

There are three questions you should ask when it comes to searching for high-quality outdoor string lighting. Those three sought after questions should be about the style of light bulb, positioning of the lights, and the style of theme suitable. Keep in mind, questioning the suitable questions will definitely support you in any given condition. And that is a fact even if that circumstance includes searching for open-air string lighting.

What Type of Bulb Should I Use?

There are two types of bulbs. There are the LED types and the incandescent light bulbs. What you desire would depend wholly on your taste. When it comes to the number of colors available and brightness of the bulb, then you should go with an incandescent. There are LEDs with protected bulb to add some assortment to its range of colors, but this often leads to dull brightness. Next, would be the improvement in power utilization. For those who already have their eyes on LED exterior string lighting then you?re in benefits since LED lights use a lesser amount of electricity than that of an incandescent. It is mentioned that LEDs consume around 90 percent far less power as compared to incandescent bulbs. On the other hand, incandescent light does consume more electricity but it helps you save more money in advance. Another significant difference that?s worth mentioning is the resistance of the bulbs. LEDs are much required when preferring durability.

Where Should I Set My Outdoor String Lighting?

The best method to make use of out-of-doors string lights is to use it in a way that it is not only there for aesthetics benefit, but to also use it with its beneficial reason. What I mean by this is to search for strategic spots that can also help you in variety of ways than one. For instance, you can place some lights beside the walkway so that people can easily see the path to your home clearly at dark hours. Another illustration would be to put outdoor string lighting on your backyard where it not simply illuminates the location but also works as light to avoid possible criminals. Workout a scheme, amaze the neighbors with your resourcefulness.

What would be the Good Design?

The solution to this concern really will depend on your choice actually. There is no precise solution to this, but there are definite guidelines you can comply with to make your lighting appear excellent. The principle when it comes to open-air string lights is to never utilize excessive string lights. The string lights are designed to serve as the accent which give emphasis to the structure and style of the site around it. If you wanted to fully light up the location then you should have purchased any of the building lamp. Joking aside, the appeal of the string light come from the subtle and diffused lighting it adds to the environment.

To sum it up, continue to consider the three questions when selecting open-air string lights to guide you in making your choice. And when it comes to posting your lights, always be certain that that it?s not numerous or excessively few.

See down below to find out more with where you should choose the most complete list regarding BROUGHT lights while using finest cost:

Eco-friendly Supply is an online shop which has a difference. Simply good for the environment tools are sold right here. The theory would be to slow up the utilization of poisonous chemicals and as well lessen waste material.

Regular refs back; Goodell apologizes to fans

NEW YORK (AP) ? The NFL's regular officiating crews are back, and Commissioner Roger Goodell has apologized to the fans who fretted about the replacements the last three weeks.

After two days of marathon negotiations ? and mounting frustration across the league ? the NFL and the officials' union announced at midnight Thursday that a tentative eight-year agreement had been reached to end a lockout that began in June. The regular refs' return couldn't have come soon enough for many players, coaches and fans.

"Obviously when you go through something like this, it's painful for everybody," Goodell said on a conference call about 12 hours after the deal was struck. "Most importantly, it's painful for fans. We're sorry to have to put fans through that. Sometimes you have to go through something like that in the short term for the right agreement for the long term."

The deal follows Seattle's chaotic last-second win over Green Bay on Monday night in which the replacement officials struggled. Goodell, who was at the bargaining table Tuesday and Wednesday, said regular officials would work the Browns-Ravens game at Baltimore on Thursday night.

The seven-man crew working the game is led by referee Gene Steratore, a 10-year NFL veteran.

"We are glad to be getting back on the field for this week's games," NFL Referees Association President Scott Green said.

The players' union is happy to have them.

"Our workplace is safer with the return of our professional referees," the NFLPA said in a statement Thursday. "We welcome our fellow union members back on our field."

Plenty of players chimed in, too.

"Never thought I would be excited for the refs to come back to work but it's about time it was definitely necessary!" Cleveland return specialist Josh Cribbs tweeted Thursday morning.

Added Minnesota punter Chris Kluwe: "It was a noble experiment, but I think ultimately a failed experiment, from what we've seen. It'll be good not to have to worry about that when we're on the field. It's good that it won't be a distraction anymore."

Shortly after the news broke, Buffalo running back C.J. Spiller tweeted, "Welcome back REFS."

The tentative deal must be ratified by 51 percent of the union's 121 members. They plan to vote Friday and Saturday in Dallas.

For the Packers, Redskins, Lions and other teams who voiced their displeasure with calls that might have swayed games, the agreement doesn't change their records. But after having replacements for the first three weeks, triggering a wave of outrage that threatened to disrupt the rest of the season, Titans quarterback Matt Hasselbeck probably spoke for his peers by simply echoing Spiller: "Welcome back."

The agreement hinged on working out pension and retirement benefits for the officials, who are part-time employees of the league. The tentative pact calls for their salaries to increase from an average of $149,000 a year in 2011 to $173,000 in 2013, rising to $205,000 by 2019.

Under the proposed deal, the current defined benefit pension plan will remain in place for current officials through the 2016 season or until the official earns 20 years' service. The defined benefit plan will then be frozen.

Retirement benefits will be provided for new hires, and for all officials beginning in 2017, through a defined contribution arrangement. The annual league contribution made on behalf of each game official will begin with an average of more than $18,000 per official and increase to more than $23,000 per official in 2019.

Beginning with the 2013 season, the NFL will have the option to hire a number of officials on a full-time basis to work year round, including on the field. The NFL also will be able to retain additional officials for training and development, and can assign those officials to work games. The number of additional officials will be determined by the league.

"As you know, this has to be ratified and we know very little about it, but we're excited to be back. And ready," referee Ed Hochuli told The Associated Press by telephone. "And I think that's the most important message ? that we're ready."

The longest contract with on-field officials in NFL history was reached with the assistance of two federal mediators.

Replacements have been used both to play and officiate NFL games before. In 1987, the players went on strike and three games were played with replacement players. In 2001, the first week of the regular season was officiated by replacements before a deal was worked out.

One big difference: The replacements 11 years ago generally came from the highest levels of college football. These officials were from lower college divisions or other leagues such as Arena Football.

After Seattle's 14-12 victory against the Packers, their ability to call fast-moving NFL games drew mounting criticism, with ESPN analyst Jon Gruden calling their work "tragic and comical."

The Seahawks beat Green Bay on a desperation pass into the end zone on the final play. Packers safety M.D. Jennings had both hands on the ball in the end zone, and when he fell to the ground in a scrum, both Jennings and Seahawks receiver Golden Tate had their arms on the ball.

The closest official to the play, at the back of the end zone, signaled for the clock to stop, while another official at the sideline ran in and then signaled touchdown.

The NFL said Tuesday that the touchdown pass should not have been overturned ? but acknowledged Tate should have been called for offensive pass interference before the catch. The league also said there was no indisputable evidence to reverse the call made on the field.

That drew even louder howls of disbelief. Some coaches, including Miami's Joe Philbin and Cincinnati's Marvin Lewis, tried to restore some calm by instructing players not to speak publicly on the issue.

Fines against two coaches for incidents involving the replacements were handed out Wednesday.

Patriots coach Bill Belichick was docked $50,000 for trying to grab an official's arm Sunday to ask for an explanation of a call after his team lost at Baltimore. And Washington offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan was tagged for $25,000 for what the league called "abuse of officials" in the Redskins' loss to Cincinnati on Sunday. Two other coaches, Denver's John Fox and assistant Jack Del Rio, were fined Monday for their conduct involving the replacements the previous week.

"I accept the discipline and I apologize for the incident," Belichick said.

Players were in no mood for apologies from anyone.

"I'll probably get in trouble for this, but you have to have competent people," Carolina receiver Steve Smith said. "And if you're incompetent, get them out of there."

And now they are out.

Dr. Martin Makary: Staying Healthy in the U.S. Health Care System ...

?

Virtually every hospital has a doctor on staff that is known for practicing bad medicine but his peers don't call him on it. And the body count from medical mistakes made in American hospitals would fill four jumbo jets a week, according to an essay this weekend in the Wall Street Journal by noted surgeon Martin Makary.

Makary is on staff at Johns Hopkins Hospital and previously wrote the groundbreaking book "The Checklist Manifesto," which contained a series of simple guidelines aimed at stopping surgical mistakes and which were later adopted by the World Health Organization. His new book is "Unaccountable: What Hospitals Won't Tell You and How Transparency Can Revolutionize Health Care."

In his essay this weekend in the Journal Makary says there is a "disturbing closed door culture" in American medicine and that doctors in hospitals routinely cover up or ignore the mistakes of colleagues. As often as 40 times a week across the country a surgeon operates on the wrong body part, he writes.?

"Roughly a quarter of all hospitalized patients will be harmed by a medical error of some kind. If medical errors were a disease, they would be the sixth leading cause of death in America?just behind accidents and ahead of Alzheimer's," Makary says in his essay. "The human toll aside, medical errors cost the U.S. health-care system tens of billions a year. Some 20% to 30% of all medications, tests and procedures are unnecessary, according to research done by medical specialists, surveying their own fields. What other industry misses the mark this often?"

The solution he writes, is for health care consumers to become better at checking into the background of their doctors and for the medical community itself to hold each accountable.

Commitment Issues In Men - Dangers Of Using Ultimatums

Commitment Issues In Men - Dangers Of Using Ultimatums

It is very common, among women who have been waiting to be proposed marriage for a long period of time, having commitment issues with their partner, to think that the best solution is to present their boyfriend an ultimatum concerning the relationship. If the woman wants badly to be engaged to their boyfriend waiting can lead to desperation. And the most common consequence of desperation can be the need to give an ultimatum. However, this attitude has some serious drawbacks that we will analyze in the rest of this article.

Pressure can lead to the end of the relationship

What most women don't realize is that this type of behaviour often results in the end of the relationship. Nobody likes to receive an ultimatum and of course men don't like to receive an ultimatum from their girlfriend regarding marriage.

If men fail to commit, they often have reasons that they cannot explain to delay their decision to propose. There are certain things they perceive in their girlfriend that don't allow them to feel that she is the women to spend the rest of his life with.

With an ultimatum, he is forced to make a decision in that moment, and his feelings would cause his decision would probably be to end the relationship.

Not be prepared to listen to a "never"

If, despite this, the woman decides to use an ultimatum, she should be prepared to pack her bags and live if the answer to the "Now or Never" question is what she was not expecting and didn't want to hear: "Never".

Staying in a relationship after he has said he would never commit to her, will loose all her credibility, because it would mean that the ultimatum was not real.

How can he take you seriously if you asked him the most important question of your life and that question was not authentic because you gave two chance: Now or Never, he answered never, but you continued with him, so never was not really never.

Conclusion

If somebody wants to use an ultimatum, she should be prepared to act in consequence after hearing the truth. It is completely acceptable to use this technique to make him commit if she is really prepared to receive the negative answer.

If she does not want to spend more time with somebody who seems will never propose marriage to her, why should she wait , and what for ? The best alternative is to stop the relationship immediately as it will have no future.

Gold prices hit high for the year

Gold prices hit $1,790 an ounce in Friday trading, before falling back to $1,778. Gold prices rose on hopes of economic stimulus from a Spanish bailout.

December?gold?rose $7.80 to finish at $1,778 per ounce. Earlier Friday, it hit $1,790 per ounce, which topped the previous 2012 high, set in late February.

Analysts speculated that Spain is working on an economic reform plan that will include a request for bailout funding from Europe.

The country's borrowing costs have dropped sharply since the European Central Bank said recently it will buy unlimited amounts of government bonds to help countries with heavy debt loads. Those borrowing costs probably will rise again if Spain doesn't request a bailout soon, analysts said.

In the U.S., the Federal Reserve also has put a plan in place to encourage economic growth.

Such economic stimulus programs continue to benefit?gold?prices, said Phillip Streible, a senior commodities broker at RJ O'Brien.

Investors buy?gold?as a hedge against inflation and volatility in currencies.?Gold?is?priced?in dollars but can be converted into any currency.

Other commodities were mostly higher as traders waited for more clues about how the global economy will fare under economic stimulus programs in several countries.

Silver for December delivery fell 4.4 cents to finish at $34.638 per ounce, December copper rose 3 cents to $3.789 per pound, October platinum gained $13.70 to $1,637.60 per ounce and December palladium ended up $10.45 at $671.55 per ounce.

Oil?prices?rose as traders weighed slower global economic growth against the uncertainty of potential supply disruptions in the Middle East, analysts said.

Benchmark oil increased 47 cents to finish at $92.89 per barrel. The?price?has fallen about 6.5 percent in the past week because of the slower economy, weak demand and plentiful supplies.

Heating oil rose 2.32 cents to end at $3.1207 per gallon, wholesale gasoline increased 3.85 cents to $2.9425 per gallon and natural gas gained 8.8 cents to $2.885 per 1,000 cubic feet.

In agricultural contracts, December wheat increased 17.75 cents to finish at $8.9725 per bushel, December corn rose 2.25 cents to $7.4825 per bushel and November soybeans ended up 3 cents at $16.2175 per bushel.
